Menopause Hair Loss: My Journey Back to Nature with Gold Earth
WHY IS MY HAIR THINNING? MENOPAUSE, ALOPECIA & MY JOURNEY BACK TO NATURE
There was a time when I looked at my hair and hardly recognised what was happening to it.
My hair loss became serious enough that I went to my GP, and I was diagnosed with alopecia.
Hearing that affected me deeply.
Hair can be such a huge part of our identity and confidence, and unless you have experienced significant hair loss yourself, it can be difficult to explain what watching your hair disappear can do to you emotionally.
I have personally questioned whether what I experienced was alopecia or whether hormonal changes at that stage of my life were also playing a part.
But I am not a doctor, and I would never tell another person to disregard a medical diagnosis.
What I can tell you is what happened next.
I went back to nature.
Back to oils, herbs, seeds and botanical ingredients that have appeared in traditional beauty and hair rituals across cultures for generations.
What started during one of the lowest points in my confidence eventually became Gold Earth Hair Essence.
And that journey didn't just change how I cared for my hair.
It helped restore my confidence, strengthened my faith in myself and eventually gave me the courage to create Gold Earth.
WHY CAN HAIR THIN DURING MENOPAUSE?
Menopause doesn't affect only our periods.
Hormonal changes can influence the hair-growth cycle, and some women notice increased shedding, finer hair, reduced density or changes around the hairline and parting.
But menopause isn't the only possible cause of hair loss.
Genetics, ageing, stress, nutrition, illness, medication, thyroid problems and different forms of alopecia can also be involved.
So please don't diagnose yourself from a blog.
If your hair loss is sudden, severe, patchy, unexplained or worrying you, speak to your GP or another qualified healthcare professional.
Gold Earth Hair Essence is a cosmetic hair and scalp product. It is not a medicine or replacement for medical advice.
START WITH THE ROOTS
Think about a tree.
If its leaves begin struggling, we don't paint them green.
We look towards the roots.
I believe we sometimes need to think about our hair in the same way.
We spend so much time making the visible hair look beautiful that we can forget about the scalp underneath it.
For me, scalp care became a ritual.
Warm the oil between your hands.
Massage it slowly into your scalp.
Stop rushing.
Breathe.
Give yourself those few minutes.
Hair care doesn't always need to be complicated.
Sometimes it needs patience, consistency and time.
29 INGREDIENTS — NATURE IN A BOTTLE
Gold Earth Hair Essence contains 29 carefully selected ingredients across botanical oils, infused herbs and essential oils.
And I tell customers something very openly.
If you are looking for a strong perfume smell, I wouldn't recommend Hair Essence.
There is no artificial perfume added simply to make it smell like a conventional fragranced beauty product.
You smell the herbs.
You smell the botanical oils.
You smell the essential oils.
You smell nature.
That is exactly how I want it.
I don't want to cover nature with an artificial perfume.
WHY THESE INGREDIENTS?
Many of the ingredients I chose have histories stretching through generations of traditional hair, scalp and beauty rituals.
Rosemary has a long history as an aromatic botanical and is now one of the best-known plant ingredients associated with hair and scalp-care routines.
Black seed, or Nigella sativa, has been valued across different cultures for centuries and has appeared in traditional food, wellness and personal-care practices.
Fenugreek has been used in traditional homemade hair preparations, particularly across South Asian beauty rituals.
Hibiscus has a history of traditional use in hair and beauty preparations in parts of Asia.
Curry leaves are known to many people simply as a cooking ingredient, yet they have also appeared in traditional homemade hair-oil preparations.
Cloves, cinnamon and bay leaves bring their own long botanical histories to the herbal infusion.
Then there are the oils.
Hair Essence includes extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, mustard oil, grapeseed oil, hemp seed oil, black seed oil, neem oil, jojoba oil, argan oil and sea buckthorn oil, alongside vitamin E.
Its aromatic essential oils include lavender, rosemary, tea tree, frankincense, myrrh and geranium.
I didn't choose these ingredients because their names look impressive on a bottle.
For me, they represent something much bigger — bringing inspiration from traditional botanical rituals into the handcrafted hair care I create today.
Traditional use isn't proof that an ingredient treats a medical condition, and I think it is important to respect both ancestral knowledge and modern science.
ONE BATCH TAKES AROUND THREE WEEKS
This is something you wouldn't know from looking at the finished bottle.
One batch of Gold Earth Hair Essence takes around three weeks to make.
The herbs and botanical oils are given time as part of the infusion process before I prepare the finished Hair Essence.
Could I rush it?
Probably.
But that would go against everything I believe.
Nature takes time.
A seed doesn't become a tree because we watered it yesterday.
And I don't believe our expectations of our hair should be any different.
CONSISTENCY — NOT MIRACLES
I don't want to sell anyone an overnight miracle.
I believe in consistency.
I am now in my second year of my own Hair Essence journey, and I still use it around three times a week.
It became part of my routine.
I also encourage customers to take photographs before they begin and then take comparison photographs over time.
Don't stand in front of the mirror every morning desperately searching for a change.
Give yourself time.
Be consistent.
Trust the process.
Nature doesn't rush.
WHY I PREFER USING HAIR ESSENCE AT NIGHT
I personally love using Hair Essence as an overnight ritual.
While we sleep, our bodies continue important processes of rest, maintenance and renewal.
But nighttime means something more to me too.
The noise of the day disappears.
The mind becomes quieter.
The body rests.
And we have a moment to reconnect with ourselves.
I massage Hair Essence into my scalp and hair, take my time and leave it overnight before washing my hair as appropriate the following day.
For me, it isn't simply applying oil.
It is a ritual.
The day is finished.
Now I nurture myself.
DON'T FORGET YOUR PILLOWCASE
If you're caring for fragile or changing hair, think about what your hair rubs against for hours every night.
Cotton pillowcases can absorb moisture and create friction as we move during sleep.
Silk or satin provides a smoother surface and can help reduce friction, tangling and mechanical stress on the hair.
A silk or satin pillowcase isn't going to magically grow your hair.
It is simply another small way of being gentler with it.
WHAT MY CUSTOMERS HAVE TAUGHT ME
One of the most unexpected parts of Gold Earth has been how much my customers teach me.
People come back and tell me about their experiences.
Some have told me they felt Hair Essence helped the comfort of their dry or problem scalps.
I have also received unexpected stories from customers who independently chose to use it elsewhere, including experiences involving psoriasis or eczema-prone skin, athlete's foot and reactions following mosquito or wasp stings.
I listen because I'm constantly learning from my customers.
But I need to make something absolutely clear.
These are individual customer experiences — not medical claims.
Gold Earth Hair Essence is not intended to diagnose, treat, heal or cure psoriasis, eczema, athlete's foot, insect stings, alopecia or any other medical condition.
I also do not recommend using Hair Essence on the face. Facial skin can be sensitive and Hair Essence was formulated for the hair and scalp.
If you have a medical skin or scalp condition, allergies, irritation or unexplained hair loss, please seek professional medical advice.
MORE THAN HAIR
My journey started because I was frightened about losing my hair.
But somewhere along the way it became about much more.
It was about confidence.
Faith.
Patience.
Learning to trust myself again.
And understanding that something difficult doesn't always have to be the end of your story.
Sometimes it becomes the beginning of another one.
Gold Earth Hair Essence grew from my personal journey and today it is handcrafted in Highworth, Wiltshire, UK.
Each batch takes around three weeks.
Each bottle contains 29 ingredients.
And behind every bottle is a woman who still uses it herself three times a week.
I didn't invent nature.
I didn't invent botanical hair oiling.
I simply took inspiration from knowledge and rituals that have existed for generations, combined them with my own experience and created something I truly believe in.
IF YOUR HAIR IS CHANGING, REMEMBER THIS
Your hair matters.
I won't tell you it doesn't.
I know how deeply hair loss can affect confidence because I experienced it myself.
But your hair does not define your worth.
Listen to your body.
Speak to your doctor when something doesn't feel right.
Nourish yourself.
Care for your scalp.
Care for your hair.
And care for the person underneath it all.
Be patient.
Be consistent.
Trust the process.
Nature takes time.
And sometimes the roots are growing long before we can see anything above the surface.
This journey gave me back far more than hair.
It gave me confidence.
It gave me belief.
And ultimately, it gave me Gold Earth.
We are nature.
Nurture by Nature.
